With a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Barcelona, which she earned in 1980, Dr. Nieto specialised in ophthalmology at the same centre five years later. After more than 20 years in the sector, she has extensive professional experience in the country’s leading health institutions.

These include positions as a collaborating ophthalmologist at the Vitreoretinal section of the Ophthalmology Service at Vall d’Hebron Hospital (1985-1986), an ophthalmologist at Hospital General de Catalunya (1986-1988) and an assistant ophthalmologist at the Parc Taulí Hospital Consortium in Sabadell (1991-1998). She became a founding member of the Institute of Ocular Microsurgery -IMO- in 1993, where she is currently the head of the anterior-segment pathology coordination team, focusing particularly on patients with retina diseases.

In the teaching field, of note is her collaboration between 1997 and 2000 in postgraduate courses at Vall d’Hebron Hospital.
