On 25 March, the official opening ceremony for Phase I of the new Ophthalmology Block at Inhambane Provincial Hospital took place in Mozambique, marking a significant milestone in strengthening eye care services in the province.<\/p>\n

The construction of this centre is\u00a0part of a project promoted by Eyes of the world to support the right to eye health<\/strong>, with a particular focus on women, girls and boys. This project aims to comprehensively\u00a0strengthen the public health system<\/strong>, promote innovative practices and contribute to the sustainability and social development of the province\u2019s population.<\/p>\n

The event was chaired by Bendita Donaciano Lopes, Secretary of State for the province of Inhambane, who reaffirmed the Mozambican Government\u2019s commitment to improving access to high-quality eye care. The event was also attended by a number of key figures from the provincial health sector, as well as representatives from partner institutions and organisations.<\/p>\n

The first phase of the Ophthalmology Block\u00a0comprises four consultation rooms, two inpatient wards with a total of twenty-four beds, an optician\u2019s and a storeroom<\/strong>. This new facility will enable an increase in the number of ophthalmological consultations and surgeries, improve clinical and post-operative care for patients, and provide a\u00a0more effective and high-quality response<\/strong>\u00a0to the needs of the local population.<\/p>\n

This initiative reaffirms the joint commitment of the Government and its partners to ensuring access to eye care as a fundamental right, promoting dignity, inclusion and an improved quality of life. This development represents a decisive step towards establishing an integrated eye care service within the public health system, with greater responsiveness and efficiency in addressing the high burden of eye disease in the province.<\/p>\n
