Due to the extreme poverty in the refugee camps, there is high incidence and prevalence of eye disease.<\/p><p>Sahrawi refugee camps have a<strong> severe lack of skilled health personnel<\/strong>. Thus, since 2002, Eyes of the world has been actively supporting the Ophthalmic Care Department of the Sahrawi government. Improving and guaranteeing people\u2019s eye care has always been the goal of Eyes of the Sahara. Furthermore, Eyes of the world supported the training of 11 opticians and four 4 optics lab technicians. These opticians are currently working at the seven ophthalmic care centers that have consultation rooms, and in three optical workshops in Smara, Dajla and Bola.<\/p><p>In addition, most of the equipment and supplies needed in the ophthalmic care centers and optical workshops have been donated by Eyes of the world. Also, as a result of the courses in optometry, optical equipment, and basic eye care taught by Eyes of the world volunteers, local personnel have been able to refresh and improve their ophthalmic care knowledge. The patients are cared for at the ophthalmology hospital in Bechar, where an average of 100 Saharawi people are treated each month. It consists of two consultation rooms, a workshop for assembling spectacles and has all the facilities for the comprehensive care of patients.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7e8fa77 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"7e8fa77\"
