Desde el inicio del estado de emergencia Covid-19, los servicios de oftalmología de la provincia de Inhambane, que es donde actúan los equipos de Ojos del mundo, nunca se han llegado a detener por completo.
Lógicamente, quedaron suspendidas las campañas de revisiones en las escuelas, las comisiones de cirugías y, en general, todas las actividades que implicaran a más de 10 personas. Pero el personal de salud, adoptando todas las medidas de seguridad y trabajando por turnos, ha ido atendiendo a la población que necesitaba asistencia y tratamiento por alguna patología ocular.
Durante estos meses, Ojos del mundo ha distribuido mascarillas y material de protección para el personal técnico que atiende las urgencias en los departamentos de oftalmología del Hospital Provincial de Inhambane y del Hospital de Zavala. Los desplazamientos fueron posibles gracias a la adquisición de un vehículo todoterreno financiado por la ESCRS (European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons).
La Fundación también ha colaborado con la Dirección Provincial de Salud realizando acompañamientos en sus visitas de supervisión a los distritos para ayudar a verificar la aplicación de las medidas de protección.
En estas visitas, como la realizada en junio a Govuro, Mabote y Funhalouro, los equipos de Ojos del mundo han aprovechado para conocer más a fondo la situación de algunos de los distritos más remotos de la provincia que no cuentan con servicio de atención oftalmológica, tomando nota de sus necesidades en cuanto a salud ocular y proporcionando material didáctico sobre las patologías oculares más frecuentes.
Activity continues in Mozambique
Since the start of the Covid-19 state of emergency, the ophthalmology services of Inhambane province, which is where the Eyes of the world teams operate, have never come to a complete stop.
Logically, eye revision campaigns in schools, surgery commissions and, in general, all activities involving more than 10 people were suspended. But health personnel, adopting all security measures and working shifts, have been attending to the population that needed assistance and treatment for any ocular pathology.
During these months, Eyes of the world has distributed masks and protection material for technical personnel who attend emergencies in the ophthalmology departments of the Inhambane Provincial Hospital and the Zavala Hospital.Transfers were possible thanks to the acquisition of an off-road vehicle financed by the ESCRS (European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons).
The Foundation has also collaborated with the Provincial Directorate of Health, accompanying them on their supervisory visits to the districts to help verify the application of the protection measures.
In these visits, such as the one made in June to Govuro, Mabote and Funhalouro, the Eyes of the world teams have taken advantage of the opportunity to learn more about the situation of some of the most remote districts of the province that do not have ophthalmological care services, taking note of your eye health needs and providing awareness materials on the most common eye pathologies.
