In October, Eyes of the world is launching the ‘Cooking for your eyes’ campaign on its social networks to spread the importance of healthy eating and a balanced and varied diet that is beneficial for eye health.

Through various publications, the properties of the vitamins and nutrients contained in many foods and their preventive role in some eye diseases will be disseminated. From the effects of carotenoids such as carrots, tomatoes and pumpkin that help to prevent cataracts; or the vitamin A in fruits and green leafy vegetables that ensures the proper functioning of the tear glands and prevents dry eye; to the consumption of vitamin C from citrus fruits such as oranges and lemons that reduce the intraocular pressure that causes glaucoma.

This campaign will be aimed especially at the population of Navarre, with an interactive format and bilingual content, and will also emphasise the importance of choosing local and seasonal food as the best option for eye health and for the environment. In addition to being fresher, tastier and more nutritious, km0 products have an impact on the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG13 on Climate Action, as reducing the distance between producers and consumers reduces the carbon footprint and ecological impact.

With this action, Eyes of the world continues to reinforce the need to take care of one’s own health as a first step to become aware of the different situations in which people living in the world’s most vulnerable contexts find themselves. In these areas, the lack of access to nutritious and healthy food increases the risk of eye diseases such as cataracts.

The online campaign will be complemented with other activities aimed at different groups, such as catering students from educational centres and members of various gastronomic clubs and societies in Navarre.

This project is funded by the Government of Navarre.
