From 4 to 14 June, practical training sessions were held for ophthalmology and optometry technicians in the province of Inhambane, led by Dr. Carlos Móser. These trainings took place in four hospitals: Vilankulos Rural Hospital, Massinga District Hospital, Chicuque Rural Hospital and Quissico District Hospital.
total of eight eye care professionals (six men and two women) participated in the sessions, which focused on perfecting essential aspects such as retinoscopy, diagnosis of glaucoma and other eye pathologies. In addition, the use of the digital tonometer, a crucial piece of equipment for measuring visual fatigue, was practised.
During the training, retinoscopes were handed out for use in all hospitals with an eye care centre, further improving the capacity to diagnose and treat eye diseases.
These trainings are of great importance, as they provide local health professionals with the skills and knowledge necessary to make accurate diagnoses and treat eye diseases in the fastest and most efficient way. This improves the quality of care provided to the beneficiary population and contributes to reducing cases of blindness and other vision-related complications.
The Eyes of Mozambique project is supported by the Government of Navarre and the Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation (ACCD).
