Dr. Toni Salvador i Playà

Antoni Salvador i Playà is an ophthalmologist from Terrassa with an outstanding clinical, surgical, and management career spanning more than forty years, from which he retired in July 2025. He graduated with excellent qualifications from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, specialized through the MIR. programme at La Fe Hospital in Valencia, and furthered his studies in Paris. Throughout his professional career, he held positions of great responsibility within the Catalan healthcare system, notably serving as head of the Ophthalmology Department at Mútua de Terrassa between 2000 and 2019.

Beyond his work at the local level, Dr. Salvador has a strong commitment to international cooperation and the development of eye health in vulnerable areas. In this regard, he has a close historical connection with Eyes of the world, working closely with the organisation in several surgical and healthcare training campaigns in Inhambane (Mozambique) during the years 2005, 2006, 2009, 2012, and 2013. His previous field experience with the Foundation is a fundamental asset in continuing the fight against avoidable blindness as supervisor of the Mali programme.
