A group of Malian women

An important part within the Eyes of the world projects are the campaigns to raise awareness among the population to become aware of the need to care for their eyes to prevent pathologies and to go to the doctor in case they appear.

In Mali, during 2021, these campaigns reached nearly 12,000 people, of whom 72% were women. This is a very relevant figure, as it shows how the Foundation has concentrated its efforts to reach women who, all too often for social and cultural reasons, have the most health problems because they have the least access to health care.

This activity, more and more, falls on numerous groups of women who coordinated through the CAFO (group of women’s associations and NGOs) from the districts of Koro and Bankass, get the campaigns to reach the most vulnerable populations.

During the past year, 62 women from these associations acted as promoters to disseminate messages on eye health and prevention habits in 205 towns and/or districts.

The Koro Pedagogical Animation Centres also collaborated in these eye health promotion campaigns, and 13 schools participated in the animation sessions.

This activity for Eyes of Mali was financed by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia.
